Nigeria: Despite Meeting With FG, NLC Declares Nationwide Industrial Action

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Ayuba Wabba, NLC President, noted that the congress couldn’t reach an agreement with the Federal Government delegation led by Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said there is no going back on the planned nationwide protest, despite its meeting with the Federal Government on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Ayuba Wabba, NLC President, noted that the congress couldn’t reach an agreement with the Federal Government delegation led by Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment.

He called on workers across the country to go ahead with the earlier directive to down tools by midnight on Wednesday.

Kenya: Youth group wants government to end medicalised FGM

By FAITH NYAMAI Youth Kenya, a community-based organisation, wants the government to end medicalised Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The youth have written a letter to Anti-FGM Board Chief Executive Officer Bernadette Loloju, asking the government to increase disciplinary measures on medical professionals who cut girls. Activist Sadia Hussein said the vice must stop and action taken against those practising it. “We applaud our government’s commitment to ending FGM in recent years. Yet it is unacceptable that FGM is still being practiced by some medical professionals in Kenya. We are urging the government to increase disciplinary actions on those individuals that cut girls,” she said.
