Population growth rate is holding Africa down - The East African Report.

Image
The next three decades need third wave of poverty reduction in Africa. By - CHRISTABEL LIGAMI The 2018 report co–authored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, calls for the world to accelerate investments in human capital, particularly health and education. The study looked at the challenges presented by the demographics of extreme poverty. Based on current trends, Africa's population is projected to double in size by 2050. Between 2050 and 2100, it could almost double again. In that case, the continent would have to quadruple its efforts just to maintain the current l...

Youth & Business: Advice for Young Entrepreneurs.

Image
By - James Parsons: As a 24-year-old entrepreneur behind several fast-growing startups with multiple employees, I’ve encountered many struggles and roadblocks that I’ve had to overcome over the past few years. Phone calls with small companies looking to grow their business are part of my daily routine, and surprisingly, many of their struggles are tantamount to my own. Here is some of my advice that applies to any young startup or entrepreneur aiming for success. Momentum is everything. Most of my projects have excited me so much that I decided not to sleep that night, and instead, put on a cup of coffee to work up wireframes and process flows for a new project. Momentum is what drives entrepreneurs, and letting an idea go stale or be pushed to the back burner could subconsciously de-prioritize the project, which in most cases, means it will never see the light of day. This isn’t to say you should hop on an idea as soon as you think of one that seems great (sometimes i...

Whether it continues rising or falls back depends, above all else, on whether the continent creates the conditions in which its greatest resources - its young people - can shine. Six out of 10 Africans are under 25. Between 2019 and 2050, the youth population will almost double from almost 230m to 452m. Their potential is to drive Africa's progress goes far beyond numbers.
